Union Plus recently awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 205 students representing 41 unions, including six winners representing NALC. This year’s group of scholarship recipients includes university, college, and trade or technical school students from 39 states and the District of Columbia. The NALC winners are:
- Claudia Jane Elliott of Jasper, Alabama. Elliott, whose father, Bryan Elliott, is a member of NALC Branch 3099, has been awarded a $525 scholarship.
- Ciara Katherine Hartema of Clear Lake, Iowa. Hartema, whose mother, Heather Hartema, is a member of NALC Branch 4375, has been awarded a $750 scholarship.
- Jacob James Langille of Rumford, Rhode Island. Langille, whose father, Jason Langille, is a member of NALC Branch 15, has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
- Ciara Grace Quinn of Millbury, Massachusetts. Quinn, whose father, Kevin Quinn, is a member of NALC Branch 12, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
- Abriella Blessing Stommel of Lincoln, Nebraska. Stommel, whose mother, Stephanie Stommel, is a member of NALC Branch 8, has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
- Madison Riley Wells of Katy, Texas. Wells, whose father, Joshua Wells, is a member of NALC Branch 283, has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
The Union Plus Scholarship Program, now in its 32nd year, awards scholarships based on outstanding academic achievement, personal character, financial need, and commitment to the values of organized labor. The program is offered through the Union Plus Education Foundation.
