NALC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of former national officer Bill Dunn. He was 86.
Brother Dunn, a lifelong member of Houston, TX Branch 283, served as the director of NALC’s Mutual Benefit Association for 16 years before he was appointed as director of safety and health in 1995. He served in that role until he retired in 1998.
Bill started his letter carrier career in 1959 and became a shop steward at the Foster Place Station the following year. He was chief stop steward from 1968 to 1976 while also serving as his branch’s health benefits representative and a co-chair of the 1976 national convention in Houston. He served on the NALC Uniform Committee and, in 1991, formed the National Letter Carriers Motorcycle Club, which raised funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“Brother Dunn was a fierce advocate for letter carriers,” NALC President Brian L. Renfroe said. “From his service as a shop steward to his 20 years as a national officer, Bill was focused on making a positive difference for our members. On behalf of NALC, I appreciate his decades of service. He will be greatly missed.”
