Recent letter carrier deaths from COVID-19

Sadly, the NALC has been informed of two active and three retired letter carrier deaths due to COVID-19.

Benedicto Fajardo passed away at the age of 55 on December 3, 2020. He began his career in 1998 and worked at the Deerfield, IL post office. Brother Fajardo was a member of branch 4739, Wheeling. He leaves behind wife Josefina and children John and Janine.

Gregory Sutak deceased December 11, 2020. He was a carrier for 37 years and a retired member of branch 40, Cleveland, OH. Brother Sutak is survived by wife Beverly and daughter Victoria. He was 66.

Robert “Bob” Condon passed away December 12, 2020, at the age of 90. Brother Condon was a veteran, having served 9 years in the Navy. He carried mail for 19 years and belonged to branch 500, Harrisburg, PA, as a retiree with 50 years of membership in the NALC. Bob leaves behind his children James and Christine. 

Ana Palafox, a member of branch 1100, Garden Grove, CA, passed away January 2, 2021. Sister Palafox was a letter carrier for 31 years and worked at the Long Beach Spring Carrier Annex. Ana was 60 years old.

Alton, IL Branch 309 member Joseph Mercurio departed January 6, 2021, at the age of 64. Brother Mercurio served his fellow brothers and sisters as a branch president and as a member of the state association’s executive board. After 35 years of service, he retired in 2020. He leaves behind his wife Linda and children Drew, Dane, Heather, Leah, Max, and Alex.
