Today, NALC President Brian L. Renfroe, and other union presidents, met with the President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Washington, DC. The group discussed the power of organized labor in the U.S., Brazil and worldwide.
President Lula is a union brother. He has organized worker strikes across Brazil, helped originate Brazil’s Workers’ Party, and served as the president of the Steel Workers’ Union in two cities. President Lula is a global leader in the labor movement and has pledged to focus on progressive labor and employment policies during his term.
“It was an honor to meet with President Lula on behalf of NALC,” President Renfroe said. “His inspiring story and dedicated work have always centered on helping workers in Brazil and around the world. When world leaders support organized labor, we all benefit. I am pleased to know we have a friend and ally in President Lula.”
