About NALC

Welcome to the new nalc.org

The NALC website has proven to be a powerful tool for the union, filled with up-to-the second news and updates, and loaded with comprehensive resources and publications. But, as with all tools, it must be sharpened, or it becomes too frustrating to be useful. That’s why we have completed our first site-wide overhaul of nalc.org in more than a decade – that’s several lifetimes on the world wide web.

We wanted to make the new nalc.org easy to navigate and to help the various audiences find what they were looking for, as quickly and easily as we could. We know we’ve been serving our long-time advocates well, with in-depth news and workplace resources, including the JCAM and Materials Reference System. But for new letter carriers and members of the public, who are struggling to understand our fight to save the Postal Service, our old website could be a maze where visitors head down dead ends, never to return. So we set out to try to make sure that wouldn’t happen again. And as we started to rethink the website, we came up with a few new things we think you’ll really like.

This is the new front page, where you should find almost everything you’re looking for. We wanted it to be big, bright and user-friendly. No longer are we overburdened by too many items on the page, instead using moving graphics to draw people in to find out more. Whether it’s more about our fight to save Saturday delivery service, more about our community service, more about the ways we’re working for the rights and benefits of CCAs, or just more about NALC. Whatever our campaign, we can highlight it big and bold.

But we know members want specific information, too, and we didn’t want to make you click through too many pages to try to find it. On our three mid-page tabs, you can get the latest headlines, which we will be updating frequently to bring you not just the latest news about NALC, but news and updates about the entire postal world. From here, you can easily jump to the latest editions of The Postal Record and the NALC Bulletin, read Fredric Rolando's president’s message or find out the latest COLA projections.

But let’s say that you’re a union steward, and you’re coming primarily to use our online resources. You don’t even have to leave this page. Under the workplace resources tab, you can go directly to the National Agreement, JCAM or MRS Index. Or the latest paychart. Or the Dispute Resolution process. Or FMLA. Or the Uniform allowance. Or the M-41. Or the M-39. Or information about an injury on the job.

Perhaps you’re a brand new letter carrier, and you don’t even know where to begin. We’ve got a tab for that, under New Member Tools. From right here, you can find out your rights and benefits, as well as learn about how NALC can help you.

If your interest is more politics and the legislative efforts to preserve the Postal Service, we want to make that easy and prominent, too. From the large and simple e-Activist sign-up, to the simple take action links, you’ll find that you can do a lot from right here.

As we were redesigning the site, we wanted to reorganize it in ways that made intuitive sense, rather than existing because that’s the way it’s always been done. So, if you look at our new menu bar, you can see that we’ve laid it out in ways that make more sense for what we do as a union.

webshot5

First is About NALC, where new members and citizens at large can find out who we are, realize how we are the backbone of the Postal Service and can read and research our history, including the entire newly updated Carriers in a Common Cause.

Webshot6

Next is News & Research, where you can get even more headlines, read about NALC and letter carriers who are in the news, or find out where to send reporters so they can get the real story of the Postal Service’s financial crisis. You’ll also find our facebook and twitter feeds, letting us tap into the millions of users of social media, who might never read a newspaper or turn on the news. We need all the allies we can get, and NALC is committed to leaving no stone unturned to find them.

Webshot7

Then comes our Government Affairs section, which we’ve reworked to be more user-friendly. From easier ways to contact your NALC legislative staff to fact sheets about our actual issues (and not just legislation numbers that are hard to remember), we think you’ll find that becoming part of the legislative solution has never been easier.

Webshot8

Next up is Workplace Issues. Whatever your issue is at the post office or with your job, this is the place for it. Injured on the job? You’ll find it here. Dealing with overtime? That’s in here. We’ve spent a lot of time working on this section, and we urge you to check it out as we build it out even further.

Webshot9

Next we have Union Administration. We wanted to make members aware of how the union is structured to serve them. From here, you’ll find the NALC Constitution, tools to help members find their branch and what their branch can do for them, their NALC region and find out who their national officers are. Additionally, you can find many services and guides from National Headquarters here, including information on the Leadership Academy, how to conduct a branch election and guides for branch finances.

Webshot10

Next we have Community Service, where we can let members and the public know about all the ways we give back to the communities we serve: the food drive, our letter carrier heroes, delivering the cure for MDA, carrier alert and PERF. You’ll find loads of tools, graphics and guides to help your branch put on successful community service drives.

Webshot11

Finally, we have our Member Benefits section. Here you’ll find many of the benefits that come with membership. From our Mutual Benefit Association to resources for new CCAs, applications for Nalcrest and information on the National Auxiliary, you’re sure to find something here for you.

As you can see, we’ve working hard to create a brand new, simplified experience for members and people interested in the NALC.

Oh, and one more little thing we’re doing. We’re making the website completely enabled for mobile phones and tablets. We know a lot of you need these resources wherever you are, from out in your vehicle to on the workroom floor. That’s why we’ve designed it to adapt to the size of your screen, so no matter what you’re working on, this website will work for you.

We're still working on a few more things we think you'll like, so keep an eye out for constant improvements.
