  “Don’t dismantle the Postal Service; keep six-day mail delivery!” That was the main message conveyed by thousands of letter carriers across America on Sunday, March 24.

  With the NALC’s 21st annual National Food Drive a few short weeks away, the pace of the behind-the-scenes work to make it go as smoothly as possible is reaching a fever pitch in hundreds of branches across the country.

  “We want to make sure that every person who carries the mail is an NALC member, because a union with a high organization rate in its craft is a strong union, and it serves all of its members better,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said.

  The proportion of American workers who are union members is at its lowest in 97 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ annual report.

• For Hurricane Sandy victims, your help is still needed

  It’s been several months since Hurricane Sandy slammed into the Northeast. Hundreds of postal workers lost homes and property. At least two lost their lives, and others lost family members. We haven’t forgotten.
