Missouri Letter Carriers to Picket Senator Bond’s Offices

Active and retired Missouri letter carriers will engage in informational picketing on Tuesday, December 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST in four cities across the state to protest the action by Sen. Christopher Bond (R-MO) that is blocking a U.S. Senate floor vote on bipartisan postal reform legislation aimed at improving universal mail delivery and curtailing future postage rate increases.

Bond has rejected efforts by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), as well as Republican and Democrat leaders in the Senate, to lift his one-man "hold" on S. 662 to allow an up-or-down vote before the 109th Congress adjourns for the year. The House has already passed similar legislation, 410-20.

Active and retired letter carriers will demonstrate and distribute informational material from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at four locations that house offices of Senator Bond in Missouri:

St. Louis: 7700 Bonhomme. A news conference by NALC National Business Agent Art Buck will kickoff the picketing at 11 a.m. Press contact: Art Buck at (314) 409-3597.

Kansas City: 911 Main St. A news conference by NALC Regional Administrative Assistant Dan Pittman will kickoff the picketing at 11 a.m. Press contact: Dan Pittman at (314) 409-3587.

Springfield: 300 S. Jefferson. Press contact: Mark Sims at (417) 838-4706.

Jefferson City: 308 E. High St. Press contact: Mike Weir at (314) 452-3083.

Further information is available on the NALC website: www.nalc.org.
