STATEMENT BY WILLIAM H. YOUNG REGARDING TODAY'S HOSTAGE SITUATION
IN MIAMI:

Washington ~ Statement by William H. Young, President of the 305,000 -member National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), regarding today's hostage situation in Miami:

"We are extremely pleased and grateful that our postal and union sister was able to win freedom unharmed from this dangerous hostage situation. We also are proud of her courageous actions throughout the ordeal and her constant display of strength and composure that prevented injury to other citizens.

"Everyday, in cities and towns across the nation, letter carriers are confronted with unforeseen dangers as they go about delivering mail along their postal routes. Unfortunately these dangers sometimes include criminal acts such as occurred in Miami. We will continue to work closely with the U.S. Postal Service to be on guard for such occurrences and hopefully to act in the same professional manner exhibited by our NALC sister."
