 NALC privacy policy

Privacy notice for the NALC website (www.nalc.org)
NALC is committed to protecting your privacy. We maintain the privacy of your information using security technologies and adhere to policies that prevent unauthorized use of your personal information. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this website. The type and amount of information gathered depends on how you use the site. Because the NALC may modify this policy from time to time, we encourage you to check this page when revisiting this website.

 Website usage/information collection
When you visit the NALC website, we automatically obtain the following information: name of your Internet service provider, browser and type of computer you are using, website, if any, that referred you to us, pages you request within NALC's website and the date and time of those requests. We use this information only on an aggregate basis to generate statistics and track which pages are most popular. We do not try to identify specific visitors or track the pages any individual visitor may look at during a visit to our site. We do not collect any other information without your knowledge and permission. We do not collect or store personally identifiable information, such as your name, mailing address, e-mail address or phone number, unless you provide that information. By accessing this website, you are expressly consenting to the collection of this information.

 Collection of personally identifiable information
However, we do collect personal information from individuals when they voluntarily register to join the NALC e-Activist Network. NALC provides web forms so you may provide contact information to facilitate your involvement in activities such as online political activism (i.e., contact Congress), to enable communication between you and the NALC, to send messages from you to decision makers which you have authorized, and to understand what issues members are interested in based on their response rate to the messages. Any information we collect, such as your name, mailing address, e-mail address, is collected and stored by NALC and by a third party vendor that we have contracted with to maintain and support a master e-Activist membership database. The information is only used to identify certain segments of the database so that relevant, customized messages can be sent to specific groups (e.g. all NALC e-Activist members in a particular state) who have voluntarily signed up to receive such messages or to track aggregate information about usage of NALC e-activist activities.

 Protecting your privacy
As part of our commitment to ensuring the privacy of our visitors, NALC does not sell or exchange names or any other personally identifiable information about our online visitors and members with any business or organization for commercial purposes. We provide voluntarily submitted personal information to third parties on a completely confidential basis only to enable a third party to perform certain tasks, such as maintain an NALC e-Activist membership database or send E-mail alerts and/or newsletters, on our behalf. These third party providers are committed to protecting the privacy of our members, and will not utilize your information for any other purpose but to provide the services which we contract for and in which you have voluntarily agreed to participate. The NALC website will not post online any of your personal contact information, including e-mail address, street address and phone numbers.

 Cookies
Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on your computer hardrive that can be used to help identify you when you visit our web site. NALC uses cookies to facilitate your online visit by maintaining data that you provide for online activism activities so that you will not need to resubmit certain information. NALC does not use cookies to track pages that specific individual site visitors view.

 Compliance with legal process
We may disclose personal information if we are required to do so by law or we in good faith believe that such action is necessary to (1) comply with the law or with legal process; (2) protect and defend our rights and property; (3) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of this website; or (4) protect the personal safety or property of our users or the public (among other things, this means that if you provide false information or attempt to pose as someone else, information about you may be disclosed as part of any investigation into your actions).
