Rolando tells Congress to start over,
get rid of unfair pre-funding mandate

Aug. 20, 2012 -- NALC President Fredric Rolando released a news feed for hundreds of radio stations around the country today—and to some West Coast stations on Friday—reminding members of Congress that when they return to Washington from the summer recess, they need to undo the financial damage they've done to the U.S. Postal Service.

On August 14, Region 13 National Business Agent Tim Dowdy was the subject of a lengthy interview on the radio show "The Union Edge." The show is carried on the Working Family Radio Network. To help drive home the absurdity of the mandate to pre-fund 75 years' worth of future retiree health benefits in just 10 years, Dowdy used an analogy, likening pre-funding to a city council requiring a homeowner to prepay sidewalk repair costs for 75 years and do so in the next few years—the homeowner might not be able to pay his mortgage, but his sidewalk will sure look good decades from now.
