Postal service can't pay its bills

August 2, 2012 -- On Aug. 1, NALC Assistant Secretary-Treasurer Nicole Rhine was interviewed on CNN's "The Situation Room" for a piece about the Postal Service. Rhine provided viewers with some context for USPS' financial situation—and even had the last word in the report: "Congress created the situation that the Postal Service is in right now, and Congress can fix it."

Also on Aug. 1, NALC Executive Vice President Timothy O'Malley provided a constitutional and historical lesson (and a lesson in logic) on the country's sixth largest syndicated radio talk show, "The Jerry Doyle Show"—with an estimated audience of 4 million listeners on hundreds of stations nationwide. Despite being a conservative host, Doyle labeled the pre-funding of future retiree health benefits a stupid idea by Congress and characterized both as the culprits in this artificial crisis.
